Checked baggage
Find all the information you need concerning your checked baggage, starting from the number of pieces allowed, to the different weight limits for each baggage item.
Before your flight, make sure you understand the checked baggage allowances and the excess baggage charges. You can purchase your excess baggage at the airport or at one of our ticket offices in Mauritius or through our Contact Centre (+230 207 7575).
- Baggage allowance is per passenger (adult or child over 2 years of age) and is based on the origin and destination of the whole itinerary.
- If the itinerary involves flying over the Atlantic Ocean to America, the baggage policy of the transatlantic airline will prevail.
- If another airline is involved in the itinerary, the other airline’s baggage policy may prevail, depending on the IATA most significant carrier rule.
- Infants are allowed one piece of 23 kg, except on Mauritius-Rodrigues vice-versa where the allowance is one piece of 5 kg.
- Premium economy passengers are allowed 2 pieces of baggage of 23 kg each. Additional piece will be charged at the rate of EUR 200 per piece.
- Oceania includes Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia and nearby Pacific Islands.
- Baggage Allowances shown in the section below came into effect on 15 May 2018.

India
Passengers arriving on international flights and those who have domestic connecting flight in India must strictly comply to these following rules:
- Even if the baggage has been tagged through the destination to India, all your baggage must be cleared through customs at the first port of entry in India.
- Passengers who fails to respect this rule runs the risk of finding themselves with missing baggage on final destination.
- Liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) purchased at duty-free stores are not allowed in the cabin on domestic flights in India.
Australia/South Africa
Any passenger arriving from international flights and connecting to a domestic flight in Australia or in South Africa must strictly comply with the following rule:
- Baggage must be cleared through customs at the first port of entry in Australia or in South Africa
- Baggage needs to be registered at a check-in counter for the onward domestic point
You should not travel if you have flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sneezing) and you will not be allowed to board the aircraft if this is the case.

Baggage Dimensions
Each airline has its rules and conditions regarding baggage dimensions. The size limit for your registered baggage should be as follow :
You are recommended not to exceed the following dimension : 158 cm (Length + Width + Height) in (x + y + z).Students
All students travelling on the basis of student fares are entitled to a free additional baggage allowance of 20 kg maximum. The additional allowance will be mentioned on your airline ticket and applicable fares will be charged for any baggage in excess of the authorised limit.
You are requested to produce the supporting documents at the ticket counter for verification purposes:- Passport with Student Visa and 1 photocopy.
- Proof of Registration As Overseas Student and 1 photocopy.
Seaman
- Seamen traffic travelling on Seaman's fares will be entitled to one additional free piece of luggage of 20 kg maximum
- The additional allowance will be specified on ticket
- Applicable rates will be charged for any piece of luggage over and above the free pieces allowed
Kestrelflyer Benefits
Holders of the Kestrelflyer Silver and Gold card are entitled to an additional baggage allowance.
Notes :
- Applicable only on Air Mauritius direct flights from/to Mauritius.
- The additional baggage allowance offered to kestrelflyer Silver and Gold members is not applicable on code share flights operated by South African Airways, Emirates Airlines, Malaysian Airlines and Virgin Australia.
Important Notes
- For safety reasons, some airports, including the SSR International Airport of Mauritius, limit the weight of each bag to 32 kg.
- Although we take every precaution in handling your baggage, make sure your bags are sturdy and easily identifiable.
- Remember to attach to the outside of each of your checked bags a tag clearly indicating your name, permanent address, address of your destination, and phone number.
